    About This Event

    I have scheduled a marathon on July 16th starting at Death Valley California! I Ran Marathons BadWater 26.2 Challenge is for those of you who want to experience running in 130 degrees heat but don’t want to run 135 miles. This is also for all my friends who want to come and support me run BADWATER Ultra so you will also have a chance to run. This race will be 100% self-supported, I recommend you would have at least 2 people to crew you with 2 cars. The cost of the race is for permit, insurance, medals and other logistics and time that involves race directing an event. This race will cap at 20 people and registration will close July 7th.

    Course

    26.2 miles on Highway 190 toward Mount Whitney. Right at Panamint lake bed on east edge, 4.2 miles before you get to Panamint Springs. If you get to Trona turnoff on left, you have ran 28 miles. It is advised to wear a GPS or drive the course and measure with odometer on your car in advance.

    Aid Stations

    Self supported - You are allowed to have as many pacers as you need. Your support car may follow you on the course. Your support Vehicles must follow all Highway rules and signs, California Motor Vehicle Code, and all local, county, and/or National Park Service laws and regulations at all times. In particular, support vehicle drivers and crews are reminded that phones must only be operated by the driver with a hands-free device; seat belts must be worn by all vehicle occupants at all times while moving, and it is illegal to drive on a highway while displaying emergency flashers. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vctoc.htm

    Finisher Medal

    Each participant will receive a custom finisher medal and official time. All registered runners are invited to join me at Badwater finish line 6am July 17th at Whitney Portal, CA. Medals will be handed out at the party. If you don’t wish to stay they will be mailed to you.

    Shirt

    Depending on number of participants I may have a shirt designed for this event. (more than 10 people)

    Registration

    On line registrations only, open until 7/7/13 midnight unless race fills up earlier. 20 runners cap.

    Finishing results

    Finishing results will be available on official website.

    Packet Pickup

    You will have a packet mailed to your address.

    Weather

    115 to 130 Degrees F. You may die if you attempt this by yourself.

    Heat stroke

    I am sure most of you that are attempting this know a lot about heat running. If you don't, please take a few moments to read on Heat Stroke Symptoms and just in case you or someone else shows symptoms seek help by calling 911. Heat Exhaustion may be treatable, but Heat stroke requires emergency medical attention. Heat exhaustion symptoms - Often pale with cool, moist skin, sweating profusely, muscle cramps or pains. Feels faint or dizzy, headache, weakness, thirst, and nausea . Core (rectal) temperature elevated usually more than 100 F (37.7 C) and the pulse rate increased Heat stroke symptoms - Unconscious or has a markedly abnormal mental status (dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, or coma). Flushed, hot, and dry skin (although it may be moist initially from previous sweating or from attempts to cool the person with water). You may have slightly elevated blood pressure at first that falls later.     Post Race Party
